I'm very excited to have been invited to be part of Camp Denali's Special Emphasis Series for 2016. Throughout the summer, guest speakers stay with the guests, giving evening presentations at Camp Denali and the North Face Lodge on their area of expertise, whether that be in wildlife biology, botany, public land management, Alaska writing and arts, Alaska politics, or a wide variety of other topics that all overlap at the intersection of helping people have a greater understanding of the north country, land stewardship and the natural world.
My multimedia-rich presentations will take you into the composer’s internal process: explaining how wildlife, scenery, culture, and personal experiences can serve as inspiration for musical compositions. Examples will include excerpts from many of my own works, as well as those of the great masters. Although no musical knowledge is required, this week will be especially engaging for anyone who has a musical background or loves classical music.
